কাটুশ্বিকা হ'কচাই জন্মৰ তাৰিখ নিশ্চিতভাৱে জনা নাযায় যদিও তথ্য অনুসৰি ১৭৬০ চনৰ ৩১ অক্টোবৰ তাৰিখে জাপানৰ কাটুশ্বিকা পৰিয়াল এটাত তেওঁৰ জন্ম হৈছিল বুলি ধাৰণা কৰা হয়৷[3] শৈশৱত তেওঁৰ নাম আছিল ট'কিটাৰ' (Tokitarō)৷[4] হ'কচায়ে ছয় বছৰ বয়সৰ পৰাই ছবি আঁকিবলৈ লয় বুলি জনা যায়[5] ১৪ বছৰ বয়সত তেওঁ কাঠত খোদিত কৰা শিল্পী (wood-carver) এগৰাকীৰ সহায়কাৰী হিচাপে কাম কৰিবলৈ লয়৷ ১৮ বছৰ বয়সত হ'কচায়ে 'Katsukawa Shunshō' নামৰ জাপানীজ চিত্ৰকৰ এগৰাকীৰ ওচৰত চিত্ৰশিল্প শিকিবলৈ আৱম্ভ কৰে৷[6]
