অগ্নি (ইংৰাজী: Agni; সংস্কৃত: अग्नि) হৈছে হিন্দু ধৰ্মৰ জুইৰ অধিষ্ঠাতা দেৱতা[2][3][4] তেওঁ দক্ষিণ-পূব দিশৰ অধিকাৰী দেৱতা আৰু হিন্দুধৰ্মৰ মঠ-মন্দিৰসমূহত অগ্নিক দক্ষিণ-পূব কোণত স্থাপিত কৰা দেখা যায়।[5] হিন্দু সৃষ্টিতত্ব অনুযায়ী অগ্নি হৈছে প্ৰকৃতিৰ পঞ্চভূতৰ অন্যতম।[3][6][7]

বৈদিক সাহিত্যসমূহত ইন্দ্ৰ আৰু সোমৰ লগতে অগ্নিক এজন প্ৰধান দেৱতা হিচাপে বৰ্ণনা কৰা হৈছে।[3][8] অগ্নিক দেৱ-দেৱীসকলৰ মুখ বুলি গণ্য কৰা হয় আৰু হোমযজ্ঞত দেৱতাৰ প্ৰতি উৎসৰ্গিত দ্ৰব্য নিবেদনৰ মাধ্যম বুলি বিশ্বাস কৰা হয়।[2][9][10] প্ৰাচীন হিন্দু ৰচনাসমূহত অগ্নিক তিনিটা স্তৰত বিদ্যমান বুলি কোৱা হৈছে: পৃথিৱীত জুই, পাৰিপাৰ্শ্বিকতাত বিজুলী আৰু আকাশত সূৰ্য। বৈদিক চিন্তা-চৰ্চাসমূহত তেওঁ এই তিনি ৰূপেৰে দেৱতা আৰু মানৱৰ মাজত বাৰ্তাবাহক বুলি অভিহিত কৰা হৈছে।[3] বৈদিক যুগৰ পৰৱৰ্তী কালত অগ্নিৰ গুৰুত্ব তুলনামূলকভাৱে হ্ৰাস পায়।[11][12] উপনিষদ আৰু পিছৰ সময়ছোৱাৰ সাহিত্যত অগ্নিক প্ৰতীকীভাৱে সকলো পৰিৱৰ্তনশীল শক্তি আৰু জ্ঞানক বুজাবলৈ ব্যৱহাৰ কৰা হয়।[13][14][15][16] বিবাহৰ সময়ত সাতবাৰ প্ৰদক্ষিণ কৰিবলগা হোমৰ জুই বা পূজাৰ আৰতিৰ থাল তথা উৎসৱ-পাৰ্বনত জ্বলোৱা বন্তিৰ ৰূপত অগ্নি হিন্দু সংস্কৃতিৰ অভিন্ন অংগ হৈ ৰয়।[3]

বৌদ্ধ ধৰ্মৰ সাহিত্যত বিস্তৃত ৰূপত অগ্নিৰ উল্লেখ পোৱা যায়।[17][18][19] প্ৰাচীন জৈন ধৰ্ম চিন্তা-চৰ্চাসমূহত অগ্নিয়ে আত্মা আৰু জুইৰে গঠিত দেহৰ[20] অগ্নি কুমাৰসকলক ধাৰণ কৰে।[21] তেওঁলোকক তেজস নামেৰেও বুজোৱা হয়।[22]

সংস্কৃত ভাষাৰ অগ্নি শব্দৰ উৎপত্তি সম্পৰ্কে বিভিন্ন মতবাদ পোৱা যায়। লেটিন ইগনিছ, শ্লেভ'নিয়ান অ'গ্নি,[23] ৰাছিয়ান অগন, প'লিছ অগিয়েন, শ্ল'ভেনিয়ান অগেঞ্জ, ছাৰ্বিয়ান অগাঞ্জ, আৰু লিথুৱানিয়ান উগ্নিছ আদি জুইক বুজোৱা শব্দৰ সৈতে ইয়াৰ সাদৃশ্য দেখা যায়।[24] প্ৰাচীন ভাৰতীয় ব্যাকৰণবিদসকললে অগ্নি শব্দৰ মূল সম্পৰ্কত বিভিন্ন ব্যাখ্যা আগবঢ়াইছে। এইসমূহ এনেধৰণৰ:

জুইৰ দেৱতা অগ্নিৰ মূল সম্পৰ্কে ইণ্ডো-ইউৰোপিয়ান আৰু ভাৰতীয় পৰম্পৰাৰ ওপৰত আধাৰিত কেইবাটাও মতবাদ আছে।[31][32]

বহুকেইটা ইণ্ডো-ইউৰোপীয়ান সংস্কৃতিত দেৱতাৰ পৰা মানৱলৈ জুই কঢ়িয়াই অনা এক পক্ষী বা পক্ষীসদৃশ জীৱৰ আখ্যান প্ৰচলিত। কোনো কোনো আখ্যানৰ মতে এই পক্ষীয়ে দেৱলোকৰ পৰা পৃথিৱীলৈ অমৃত কঢ়িয়াই আনে। ই প্ৰতিদিনে দেৱতাসকললৈ উৎসৰ্গিত সামগ্ৰী কঢ়িয়াই লৈ যায় বুলি বিশ্বাস কৰা হয়। ভাৰতীয় সাহিত্যৰ কিছুসংখ্যক শ্লোকত অগ্নিক স্বৰ্গৰ উৰণীয়া পক্ষী বুলি কোৱা হৈছে।[32][33]

প্ৰাচীনতম বৈদিক সাহিত্যৰ অন্যতম কথক সংহিতা আৰু মৈত্ৰায়নী সংহিতাত উল্লেখ আছে যে ব্ৰহ্মাণ্ড আদিতে মহাশূণ্য আছিল। দিন-ৰাতি একোকে নাছিল আৰু কেৱল প্ৰজাপতিয়েহে বিৰাজ কৰিছিল।[31] প্ৰজাপতিৰ কপালৰ পৰা অগ্নিৰ জন্ম হয় আৰু তেতিয়াই দিন আৰু ৰাতিৰো উৎপত্তি হয়।[31] পৰৱৰ্তী সময়ৰ বৈদিক সাহিত্য যেনে তৈত্তিৰীয় ব্ৰাহ্মণ বা শতপথ ব্ৰাহ্মণত এই আখ্যানসমূহে জটিল ৰূপ একোটা পায়।[31]

আদিতে অগ্নিক সৃষ্টি-স্থিতি-প্ৰলয়ৰ হোতা তথা পৃথিৱীৰ শাসনকৰ্তা হিচাপে গণ্য কৰা হৈছিল। তেওঁৰ যমজ ভ্ৰাতৃ ইন্দ্ৰ ধুমুহা, বৃষ্টি আৰু যুদ্ধৰ দেৱতা হিচাপে বাতাৱৰণৰ অধিকাৰী হোৱাৰ বিপৰীতে সূৰ্যই আকাশ আৰু স্বৰ্গ শাসন কৰিছিল।[11][lower-alpha 1] সময় বাগৰাৰ লগে লগে হিন্দুধৰ্মত সৃষ্টি-স্থিতি-প্ৰলয়ৰ হোতা হিচাপে অগ্নিৰ স্থান আৰু গুৰুত্বৰ সালসলনি ঘটে।[35][lower-alpha 2]
